There is no easy way to delete your account. You have to go through a prolonged discussion with their customer services section. They are making things really difficult for the user and it suggests bad practices across the whole organisation.

Very poor experience booking a property…

Very poor experience booking a property with Vrbo.
I found the website very confusing. Three times I tried to pay for the property and the payment was rejected although the credit card I was using is in regular use and there's no problem with the credit limit. I phoned the CallCenter and spoke to a very confused operator. He was so poor that initially I suspected that it was a scam. Eventually, he said the problem with the payment might be because I am not a member of Vrbo but he didn't sound at all sure about this. As he was so poor and I wasn't fully trusting him I hung up, joined Vrbo and tried again and my payment was accepted. Why didn't I get a message explaining that you need to log on or be a member before you can make a payment. All I got was a security box saying your payment has been rejected. That was no help at all and was in fact confusing. There was very little information on the website to help and what I found was confusing. I was very close to using another supplier. I certainly wouldn't recommend Vrbo at the moment!

Do not buy any accidental damage from VRBO. It is impossible to actually claim for it. The insurance company is in the US. Claiming online is impossible and VRBO offer no help at all

OWNERS NEVER LIST YOUR PROPERTY WITH…

OWNERS NEVER LIST YOUR PROPERTY WITH VRBO!! If the tenant doesn't pay even after receiving notice from VRBO they paid VRBO WILL NOT pay you. They try to get the tenants to pay weeks and months prior to arrival to collect processing fees they split with the financial institution and don't pay the owners until after the tenants leaves. Thus if there is a problem you will NOT be paid. Customer support is HORRIBLE and a TOTAL DISASTER!!!

Terrible customer service!!

Terrible customer service!!! Every time I call, I am connected to a Middle Eastern person in his basement. There is nobody to talk to. I have been trying to reach the billing department for over three weeks now, with no success. I am a host on the platform, and they are keeping my money because of a supposed error. I keep on calling with zero success. What a shame!!!!

Property not as described in listing

Property not as described in VRBO.com listing description. The property is in a recurring, high risk flood zone with fixed road closure gates for flooding that limits access to the property that owner didn't disclose. The listing states it has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms when it only has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Had to leave the property due to street flooding for hours muliplte days and danger to our health and vehicle. When trying to work with the property owner and VRBO to resolve the issue, the owner ignored contact and VRBO doesn't provide a specific date for issue resolution. Property owner retaliating with fake charges after we submitted an honest review. We shared pictures and video evidence with VRBO of the listing condition inside and outside.

I'd give them ZERO stars if I could

I'd give them ZERO stars if I could. My Expedia booking was shunted over to them, then the host messaged me that he was double-booked. I had to call customer service from Europe back to Austin but they can't do anything until CHECK-IN TIME on the day of CHECK-IN! I waited until that exact moment and called, spent 1.5 hours on the phone, was given one night in another hotel, and then they would find 2 more nights for me. Later I got an email saying I didn't qualify for the other 2 nights relocation because I didn't notify them of the problem! It's all in their call logs! Just absolutely shockingly bad policies and awful customer service. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

How can I score a zero for this company. Only correspondence I ever received regarding a complaint is the standard automatic corporate answer. Don’t even get me started on the actual complaint!

Q:

Why should I pay more for a subscription? If I describe my property well, shouldn't it show up in searches? Or does homeaway deliberately block lower paying subscribers? Also, in addition to my subscription fee, homeaway won't charge my renters a fee will they?

After years of paying Homeaway for my listing, I cancelled my Service today - When I said I wanted to cancel because of the service fee, they made ZERO effort to keep me as a good paying customer. They just immediately cancelled it and gave me a refund, I am shocked, Stupid bastards!

A:

Hi Yes homeaway will put your listing lower in the search results if you pay for the minimum listing also if you don't use the book it now option they will put you lower yet and they charge an additional fee there too They also charge 5 to 15 percent on all renters now regardless of how much your listing was I have 2 platinum listings and pay 1800 each They still charge the renters the fee Better off don't re new and go to another site

Q:

Has everyone got the news that homeaway is going to be charging customers a booking fee? What happened to dealing with the owners direct? This is all corporate expedia's doing.

A:

I would advise everyone to NEVER BOOK WITH HOMEAWAY! They have a mandatory deposit policy and don't require home owners to justify their reasons for keeping the deposit. I recently rented a home with homeaway for a weekend getaway in La Jolla and I got scammed my $500 deposit even though I have not destroyed anything in the house. I spent a total of 3 hours calling the customer service on different dates and they were not helpful at all. The customer service representative told us "The guy literally said: we're not like Airbnb. We don't serve customers" and said that they will not help us get our $500 back. Bottom line: if you don't want to be charge an extra couple hundred dollars book with airbnb. I have rented from both, had customer complaints on both platforms and airbnb always made sure I got what I paid for.

A:

I found this out at the 11th hour and felt I had no choice at that time but to renew. This new approach is a disaster. Renters don't like it and I don't like it. They won't disclose how they determine what you charge but for example for a $1000 charge for a weekend rental at our large lake home they add on $200. That's a 20% increase. I've had very few inquiries and no bookings since they made these changes. I'd love to hear if someone found a better site. Otherwise, we should all form a co-op and do this on our own and not worry about these large companies. I feel as though they're treating us like employees or franchisees except they have nothing at stake and we have everything at stake. And all the work. I just spoke with their customer service area to complain that I'm getting no bookings and I was told that "they're not for everyone anymore"... clearly!

A:

This is totally unexceptable! I too have been with VRBO for over 5 years. Homeway has destroyed this company! Do they think they are the only option for people to rent out their homes? So bloody arrogant! I pay 650 Canadian a year for a basic site and now they want to charge my guests? I am letting all my renters know what they are doing and to stop booking with Home Away. What a rip off

Q:

Was researching my 2016 vacations and noticed these extra fees... was surprised... didn't know what they were for... close to an extra $100 for a week rental - crazy. Where is a renter to go if you homeowners stop listing your beautiful homes here...? I have always found such beautiful places on homeaway...

A:

As an owner I am significantly dismayed by Homaway's disregard for its core business, but understand the business has changed since the expedia buyout. That said, my challenge is do I find an advertising venue in the vacation rental space or simply revert to traditional rental models. In my market space with sub 1% vacancies the options are open and still profitable without the annoyance of corporate greed.

A:

Thanks for the heads up about HomeEscape. Anyone else know of other sites too? Please post all present and new sites that come as competitors. They are actually telling people they dont have to pay the fee but I dont see anywhere any of my renters can opt out of it. If there is a lawsuit, Ill be glad to link up to it. Let me know guys.

by Brad W. - March 11, 2016

A:

HomeEscape.com is relatively new but with the new Expedia Service charges on HomeAway/VRBO, the homeowners are moving over to HomeEscape in droves. Over the next year as the HomeAway subscriptions expire many of the homeowners will not renew with HomeAway if HomeEscape turns into a good alternative. In general we (homeowners) are pretty upset that Expedia is going to make over 4Billion in added income from our customers just in the first year of the fee, if folks continue to book through them. Many of us will feel pressure to lower our rental income but if you only knew our expenses you would know this is not really a big money maker for us - personally, these fees will actually put us well into the red. So, for our guests and ourselves, HomeAway will no longer be a site we do business with once our subscription expires. And, though we used to rent through them at least once a year, we're done with that as of now.

Q:

Why are guests being charged a fee by Homeaway? I thought the exhorbitant fees I pay for listing covered the guests. AirBnB charges guests but not owners. It should be one or the other NOT BOTH. My guests think it is ME making the charge

A:

Terrible experience. Homeaway states their is a covid-19 policy but they do not adhere to their own policy. The landlord has treated us terribly, refused to give any refund and Homeaway has been very difficult to work with. Will never rent from a Homeaway property again.

by Virgil - April 03, 2020

A:

As an owner/host you can always join StaySavr and they provide several ways for the cleverer guests to contact you direct and cut out the homeaway fees.

by Sherry Harper - December 17, 2018

A:

I don't think our guests are aware of the rip-off yet. Look what it took for us to figure out what they are doing.

It appears that I am unable to post my review onto the property advertised on gone and away, does the site not allow you to post negative feedback. There are only three positive reviews posted, which I think the owner has put on.

Play online spider solitaire and enjoy unlimited fun it's a ultimate version of card games a huge fans following it has http://spidersolitaire.me so without any trouble get it and share the information.

A:

No, they won't. Worst agency I ever dealt with. Warn all you friends. They should be put out of business.

by Vincent Diaz - August 19, 2015

A:

That has been been my experience. They are happy to post positive reviews and help the owners but they are NOT at all interested in honest reviews to help "renters". I would strongly suggest going elsewhere and/or vetting your potential rental owner VERY carefully and ask for verifiable references that you can follow up with.
